Dinner Savvy vs. Meal Delivery Kits
Okay, I admit that I don’t understand the appeal with all the various meal delivery kits that are available now. I’m not going to name names but Y’all know what I’m talking about. There’s a whole list of them that you can order meals for the week from and they will ship them right to your door.
It sounds good in theory but as far as I can tell it’s like getting a box of groceries delivered to your door. Fresh, refrigerated groceries. With meat. I know they are packed in insulated boxes with ice packs or dry ice but this is North Carolina and it is HOT in the summer. What if your box comes at 9:00 in the morning and you don’t get home from work until 5:00 that afternoon? That’s 8 hours that your box may have been out in the North Carolina heat. I’m kind of funny about my meat and refrigeration so I just don’t know if I could trust this box to keep my food cold enough.
Then let’s talk about the contents of the box. You get everything you need to prepare the meals you selected. Basically, it’s a box of groceries in portioned quantities for your selected recipes. You still have to do quite a bit of work like trimming the meat, chopping the vegetables, mixing a marinade, etc. Then you get to clean all of it up. If you have to do all of the work, why wouldn’t you just get a recipe from the internet and go to the grocery store and buy the ingredients to make it?
Now let’s look at what this “convenience” cost. The average price PER SERVING is about $8.50. That’s $34.00 for a meal that serves 4 people. It’s cheaper than eating out but it’s still expensive when you compare it to our service. So, consider this:
